In an era where India’s entertainment industry is rapidly moving towards digital platforms, Maharashtra’s entrepreneur Nitin Udmale is attempting to solve one of the biggest challenges faced by small and medium-budget filmmakers — affordable and accessible movie distribution. Through his startup Filmytell Private Limited, he is building what he calls India’s first E-Theatre, a pay-per-view OTT platform that connects filmmakers directly with audiences.
A Journey of Courage and Reinvention
Nitin Udmale’s career journey is far from conventional. An agriculture graduate by education, he was selected as a Class-One Officer through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). Despite achieving one of the state’s most prestigious government positions, he chose a different path and resigned from the post to explore opportunities in the private sector.
He then spent nearly four years with BP Energy in business management, gaining experience in operations and business development. However, his passion for creating something impactful eventually led him into entrepreneurship.
The Vision Behind Filmytell
The idea behind Filmytell emerged from observing a persistent problem in the Indian film industry. Every year, thousands of films and web series are produced, but many never reach theatres or major OTT platforms because of high marketing costs and limited distribution opportunities.
Filmytell aims to bridge this gap.
Unlike subscription-based OTT platforms, Filmytell follows a pay-per-view (rental) model, allowing audiences to rent only the content they wish to watch. This provides filmmakers complete control over pricing while helping them reach viewers without spending heavily on distribution.
Solving a Real Industry Problem
Filmytell is designed especially for:
- Small and mid-budget films.
- Independent filmmakers.
- Regional cinema.
- Short films, web series and vertical dramas.
- Unreleased films looking for a digital audience.
The platform allows producers to retain ownership of their content while deciding rental prices themselves. Weekly revenue settlements, gifting options, offline downloads, language-based recommendations and smart TV support are among the platform’s key features.
Audience is Bhagwan -
Nitin Udmale believes that success in cinema ultimately depends on audiences, not expensive marketing campaigns. His philosophy is reflected in Filmytell’s core message:
“Audience is Bhagwan.”
He says the platform’s mission is to make quality cinema available beyond multiplexes and metropolitan cities, especially for viewers who have limited access to theatres.
Building a Made-in-India Entertainment Startup
Filmytell has been Indian Entertainment Startup with the ambition of becoming a worldwide entertainment platform. The startup is expanding across Android, iOS, Web, Android TV, Google TV,Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV.

The company is also focusing on regional language cinema and plans to bring stories from every corner of India to audiences in India and the global Indian diaspora.
Looking Ahead
Nitin Udmale’s vision goes beyond launching another OTT app. He wants Filmytell to become a digital theatre ecosystem where every filmmaker, regardless of budget, gets a fair opportunity to release content and every viewer gets affordable access to cinema.
With India’s creator economy growing rapidly, Filmytell represents a startup attempting to redefine film distribution through technology, accessibility and a creator-first approach.
