From a Seven-Figure HR Salary to Starting from Zero: How Binita Darekar Built Guided Growth with Binita

By Ananya Varma
After building a successful career in Human Resources, Binita Darekar chose an uncertain entrepreneurial path to help working professionals move beyond self-doubt, find clarity and pursue growth that feels meaningful.
A Journey Built on Resilience and People
Growing up in a modest household in Mumbai, Binita Darekar learned early that opportunities were not always handed to you; sometimes, you had to create them.
With her father working as a carpenter and her mother managing the household, she witnessed the importance of hard work, resilience and responsibility.
Determined to build an independent future, she supported her education through tutoring and working in a call centre, eventually completing her Master’s in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from Mumbai University.
Her professional journey led her into Human Resources, a field where she discovered her interest in understanding people, their aspirations and the challenges they face.
Over the years, she worked across recruitment, employee engagement, people management and HR leadership, eventually reaching a senior leadership position with a seven-figure annual salary.
By conventional measures, she had achieved success.
But success, she would discover, doesn’t always answer every question.
When Professional Success Didn’t Feel Like Enough
As someone who had always been ambitious and achievement-oriented, Binita was accustomed to setting goals, working hard and moving towards the next milestone.
A better designation, greater responsibilities and financial growth were all part of the journey.
Yet, after reaching a position she had worked towards for years, she began experiencing an unexpected feeling.
Something was missing.
“I had achieved what I was working towards, but somewhere I started questioning whether this was truly what I wanted and whether it was fulfilling me,” she recalls.
It wasn’t dissatisfaction with her profession. She valued the opportunities, relationships and experiences her career had given her.
Instead, she began recognising how easily high achievers can become so focused on moving forward that they forget to pause and understand themselves.
She started asking questions that many working professionals quietly carry.
Am I pursuing what genuinely matters to me? Am I making decisions because they align with my values, or because they feel safe and familiar?
These questions marked the beginning of her journey towards self-discovery.
The Discovery That Changed Her Direction
Rather than making an immediate career change, Binita began investing time in understanding herself.
She started reading personal development books, practising self-reflection, exploring human behaviour and learning about coaching.
A significant turning point came when she completed a DISC behavioural assessment through Tony Robbins’ platform.
Coaching emerged as a potential direction aligned with her strengths.
The result resonated with something she had experienced repeatedly throughout her HR career.
Colleagues and team members had often appreciated her ability to create a comfortable, non-judgemental space where people felt heard and understood.
She remembered the satisfaction of helping nervous candidates feel comfortable during interviews, connecting with students during campus recruitment and supporting employees who needed someone to listen.
Those moments brought her a sense of fulfilment that extended beyond professional responsibilities.
“What stayed with me was how I felt when someone became comfortable enough to open up, or when I could help them feel more confident. That feeling was deeply fulfilling,” she shares.
Gradually, she began connecting her professional experience, natural strengths and growing interest in personal development.
Coaching was no longer simply an interesting possibility. It became a direction she wanted to explore seriously.
Leaving Certainty Behind to Start Again
Choosing to transition from a well-established HR career to entrepreneurship was not an easy decision.
Binita had spent years building her professional identity, financial security and reputation.
Walking away meant starting from zero in an unfamiliar industry, with only a few months of savings and no guarantee of success.
Questions naturally followed.
Would coaching work as a sustainable business? Was she making the right decision? What if something that felt personally fulfilling did not translate into a successful profession?
She understood those doubts because she had experienced the very uncertainty that holds many professionals back.
Yet, her journey of self-reflection had taught her an important lesson: waiting for complete certainty can sometimes prevent people from exploring meaningful possibilities.
She decided to pursue professional coaching education and became a Certified Life Coach and NLP Practitioner.
That decision eventually led to the creation of Guided Growth with Binita, her coaching and personal development brand.
For her, the transition was not about rejecting corporate success. It was about redefining success to include personal meaning, fulfilment and alignment.
Building Guided Growth with Binita
Guided Growth with Binita was founded on a simple observation: many capable professionals struggle not because they lack potential, but because they doubt themselves, overthink decisions or feel uncertain about what comes next.
People may have successful careers yet feel disconnected from their aspirations.
Others know they want change but hesitate because they fear making the wrong decision, disappointing others or stepping outside familiar expectations.
Through her coaching practice, Binita works with professionals seeking greater clarity, confidence and self-trust in their personal and professional lives.
Her approach is centred on the Aligned Growth Framework™, which combines self-awareness, reflection, practical exercises and intentional action.
Rather than providing ready-made answers, she encourages clients to recognise their thinking patterns, question limiting beliefs and develop the confidence to make decisions aligned with their values.
Her background in HR adds a practical understanding of workplace expectations, career pressures and the challenges professionals experience while balancing ambition with personal wellbeing.
“Growth is not always about doing more or achieving more. Sometimes, it begins with slowing down, understanding yourself and recognising what truly matters to you,” she explains.
Taking the Conversation Beyond One-to-One Coaching
Beyond individual coaching, Binita is developing Guided Growth as a platform for broader personal and professional development.
Through her podcast, Becoming Clear with Binita, she explores relatable experiences such as overthinking, self-doubt, expectations, uncertainty and the search for meaningful growth.
She also creates digital resources and learning experiences that encourage people to reflect, understand themselves and take practical steps forward.
Her vision extends into organisations through employee wellness programmes, leadership development sessions and workshops focused on self-awareness, communication and personal effectiveness.
Having worked within corporate environments, she believes that professional growth and emotional wellbeing should not be treated as completely separate conversations.
She hopes to contribute towards workplaces where people can perform effectively while also feeling heard, supported and understood.
Redefining What Growth Really Means
Today, Guided Growth with Binita is still in its early entrepreneurial journey.
Building a coaching business comes with its own uncertainties, responsibilities and learning experiences.
But for Binita, those challenges are also reminders of the principles she encourages others to practise: self-awareness, patience, intentional action and trust in one’s ability to learn along the way.
Her story is not about having every answer or making a fearless career transition.
It is about recognising that even successful professionals can question their direction, experience self-doubt and choose to explore a different possibility.
From a modest upbringing in Mumbai to HR leadership and eventually entrepreneurship, her journey reflects a changing understanding of success.
And through Guided Growth with Binita, she hopes to help others discover their own.
Because sometimes, the most meaningful transformation does not begin with a promotion, a new opportunity or another achievement.
It begins with a simple question: “Is the life I am building truly aligned with the life I want to live?”
