Background and Journey
Q1. Can you share a brief about yourself and an overview of your professional journey and how you ventured into your current business domain? Also, please share your personal background as well.
I am Dr. Nishant Atmaram Sawant, a cybersecurity professional, technology leader, and passionate advocate for digital security, with over 25 years of experience in the IT and cybersecurity industry. Currently, I serve as the Director – Managed Security Services at Meta Infotech Limited, where I lead enterprise cybersecurity operations, security transformation initiatives, and managed security services for organizations across diverse industries.
My professional journey has been driven by a simple belief: Technology creates opportunities, but cybersecurity builds the trust required to sustain them.
Over the years, I have witnessed the transformation of technology from traditional IT infrastructure to cloud computing, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and today's increasingly complex cyber threat landscape.
I began my career by developing a strong foundation in information technology, infrastructure management, and enterprise security. With continuous learning, practical experience, and increasing leadership responsibilities, I gradually transitioned into strategic cybersecurity management.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to lead large technical teams, manage complex enterprise environments, build relationships with global technology partners, and work closely with CIOs, CISOs, and business leaders to strengthen organizational security.
One of my proudest personal milestones was completing my Doctorate in Cyber Security from Mumbai University in 2024. Pursuing higher education while managing professional responsibilities reinforced my belief that learning should never stop, regardless of one's position or experience.
My journey has also taught me the importance of discipline, humility, perseverance, and respect for people. I believe professional success is not defined only by designations or awards, but also by the positive impact we create in the lives of others.
Today, beyond my corporate responsibilities, I actively contribute to cybersecurity awareness through public speaking, media interactions, industry conferences, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
My mission is to contribute towards building a cyber-aware, cyber-resilient, and digitally empowered India.
Q2. What motivated or inspired you to pursue a career in the cybersecurity industry?
My interest in cybersecurity developed from my fascination with technology and my desire to understand how digital systems could be protected against evolving threats.
During the early stages of my career, cybersecurity was primarily viewed as a technical function involving antivirus software, firewalls, and network protection. However, I recognized that as businesses became increasingly dependent on technology, cybersecurity would become essential for business continuity, customer confidence, national security, and economic growth.
What inspired me most was the realization that cybersecurity is not merely about protecting computers or networks; it is about protecting people, businesses, livelihoods, and the digital economy.
A cyberattack can disrupt an organization, compromise sensitive information, cause financial losses, and impact thousands of individuals. The responsibility of preventing such incidents gives tremendous purpose to our profession.
I have always believed that cybersecurity professionals are the digital soldiers of our nation. Just as our armed forces protect the country's physical borders, cybersecurity professionals work tirelessly to safeguard its digital boundaries.
This sense of responsibility continues to motivate me every day.
Another important motivation has been the opportunity to continuously learn. Cybersecurity is a field where challenges change rapidly, and even experienced professionals must remain students throughout their careers.
For me, cybersecurity is not simply a profession. It is a responsibility, a passion, and an opportunity to contribute to society.
Key Accomplishments
Q3. What do you consider your most significant achievements or milestones in your career?
When I reflect on my professional journey, I consider my greatest achievement to be the trust I have earned from organizations, colleagues, customers, and industry leaders over more than two decades.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of leading teams of over 110 professionals, supporting 10 enterprise customers, successfully delivering 30+ projects, and collaborating with 40+ technology OEM partners.
These experiences have helped me build strong expertise across enterprise cybersecurity, managed security services, security operations, risk management, governance, compliance, cloud security, identity management, and digital transformation.
Completing my Doctorate in Cyber Security in 2024 was another significant milestone. It represented years of dedication, continuous learning, and commitment to professional excellence.
I have also been fortunate to receive several prestigious national and international recognitions, including:
Global Cybersecurity Visionary of the Year 2026, at the Indo–UK Leadership Awards organized by Asia Today at the House of Lords, UK Parliament, London.
India's Cybersecurity Visionary Ambassador Award 2026, at the Asian Diplomat Awards.
Cyber Security Icon of India 2026, at the Pride of Nation Awards presented by Asia Today.
Cyber Security Leader of the Year 2026, at the Pride of Maharashtra Awards.
National Cyber Security Excellence Award 2026, at Bharat 2.0 Conclave.
BharatCXO Dhurandhar Award 2026, recognizing leadership and contributions to cybersecurity.
Recognition as an honoree of the Bharat CIO Ratan 100 Club.
Receiving recognition at the House of Lords in London was a particularly memorable moment. Representing Indian cybersecurity leadership on an international platform was both an honour and a responsibility.
Beyond awards, I consider my participation in cybersecurity conferences, panel discussions, awareness initiatives, and media platforms, including Zee News, equally meaningful.
However, my greatest satisfaction comes from mentoring professionals, building capable teams, strengthening enterprise security, and helping individuals understand how to protect themselves from cybercrime.
Awards recognize our journey, but the real achievement lies in the impact we create along the way.
Challenges and Learnings
Q4. What challenges have you faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Every successful professional journey involves challenges, and mine has been no different.
One of the biggest challenges throughout my career has been keeping pace with the rapidly evolving technology and cybersecurity landscape.
When I began my professional journey, the IT industry was very different. Today, organizations must address sophisticated ransomware attacks, advanced phishing campaigns, cloud security risks, identity-based threats, and cyberattacks powered by artificial intelligence.
Remaining relevant in such a dynamic industry requires continuous learning, adaptability, and the willingness to embrace change.
Another important challenge has been transitioning from a technical professional into a strategic business leader.
Technical expertise alone is not sufficient for leadership. One must develop the ability to understand business objectives, manage financial and operational responsibilities, communicate with senior management, build strong teams, and make decisions under pressure.
I overcame these challenges by continuously upgrading my knowledge, pursuing professional certifications, learning from experienced leaders, and taking responsibility for increasingly complex assignments.
Balancing professional commitments with academic ambitions was another major challenge. Completing my doctorate while managing leadership responsibilities required discipline, determination, and effective time management.
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is that leadership is not about knowing everything; it is about building the right team, encouraging collaboration, and empowering people to succeed.
I also strongly believe that failures and setbacks are important teachers. Every challenge provides an opportunity to improve our judgment, strengthen our resilience, and become better leaders.
My personal philosophy is simple:
Never stop learning, never be afraid of challenges, and never allow temporary setbacks to define your future.
Innovation and Vision
Q5. Could you discuss your vision for the future of your business or the cybersecurity industry as a whole?
I believe the future of cybersecurity will be defined by three important factors: Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Resilience, and Digital Trust.
As organizations accelerate digital transformation, cybersecurity can no longer operate as an isolated technical function. It must become an integral part of business strategy, corporate governance, and organizational culture.
Artificial intelligence is creating tremendous opportunities to improve threat detection, automate security operations, and strengthen incident response. At the same time, cybercriminals are using AI to launch more sophisticated attacks, including deepfake fraud, automated phishing, and identity-based exploitation.
My vision is to help organizations move from a reactive cybersecurity approach to a proactive, intelligence-driven, and resilient security model.
I believe future cybersecurity strategies must focus on Zero Trust Architecture, AI-powered Security Operations Centres, cloud security, identity protection, data privacy, threat intelligence, and continuous risk assessment.
Through my leadership in Managed Security Services, I aim to contribute towards developing scalable, technology-driven security services that enable enterprises to operate confidently in an increasingly connected world.
I also believe India's cybersecurity industry has enormous potential to emerge as a global leader in cybersecurity innovation, talent development, and security services.
However, technology alone cannot secure our digital future.
We must also invest in cybersecurity education, public awareness, professional skill development, and collaboration between government, industry, and academic institutions.
With the growing importance of India's Digital Personal Data Protection framework, organizations must recognize that protecting personal information is not simply a compliance requirement but a fundamental responsibility.
My long-term vision is to contribute towards making India one of the world's most trusted and cyber-resilient digital economies.
Ultimately, the future of cybersecurity is not only about defending against attacks. It is about creating an environment where individuals, businesses, and governments can innovate and grow with confidence.
Q6. What are you looking forward to accomplishing most in 2026?
The year 2026 has already been a remarkable and memorable chapter in my professional journey, particularly with the national and international recognition I have received for my contributions to cybersecurity.
However, I strongly believe that recognition should never become the destination; it should become the motivation to achieve something greater.
For the remainder of 2026, my focus is on creating a meaningful and lasting impact in three important areas.
First, strengthening enterprise cybersecurity and digital resilience.
I aim to continue driving innovation in Managed Security Services, security operations, AI-driven threat detection, cloud security, data protection, and enterprise cyber risk management. My objective is to help organizations strengthen their security posture while supporting their business growth.
Second, contributing to cybersecurity awareness and education.
Cybercrime is no longer limited to large corporations. Students, senior citizens, working professionals, and ordinary citizens are increasingly becoming targets of online fraud.
I want to use my professional experience, public platforms, and media interactions to spread practical cybersecurity awareness in simple language so that every individual can understand how to stay safe in the digital world.
Third, mentoring and developing future cybersecurity leaders.
India has tremendous young talent. I want to encourage students and aspiring professionals to explore cybersecurity as a rewarding career and help them understand the importance of technical skills, ethics, discipline, and continuous learning.
Having received recognition on prestigious platforms, including the UK Parliament's House of Lords, I also look forward to contributing more actively to international cybersecurity discussions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
My aspiration is to ensure that the achievements of 2026 become the foundation for even greater contributions in the years ahead.
“For me, success in 2026 will not be measured by the number of awards I receive, but by the number of people I inspire, professionals I mentor, and organizations I help secure.”
Closing Thoughts
Q7. Is there anything else you'd like to share or any message you'd like to convey to the audience reading this feature about you?
I would like to share one important message with every reader:
"Dream big, remain humble, keep learning, and never underestimate your ability to make a difference."
My journey of more than 25 years has taught me that success is not achieved overnight. It is built through dedication, consistency, hard work, discipline, and the courage to keep moving forward despite challenges.
To young professionals, I would say that your starting point does not determine your destination. What matters is your determination to learn, your willingness to work hard, and your commitment to doing the right thing.
To aspiring cybersecurity professionals, my message is that this industry offers tremendous opportunities, but it also demands integrity, responsibility, and continuous improvement.
And to every citizen, I would like to emphasize that cybersecurity is everyone's responsibility.
A single moment of awareness can prevent financial fraud, identity theft, or the loss of valuable personal information. We must develop the habit of thinking before clicking, verifying before trusting, and protecting our digital identities.
I firmly believe that cybersecurity professionals are the unsung heroes of our digital world, working behind the scenes to protect our nation's digital infrastructure, businesses, and citizens.
